Step 1: Before applying

To be able to make good choices of partner universities in the application for exchange studies, it is important to prepare and search for information before applying.

As a summary there is a check list and FAQ for all parts of the Exchange studies process. You get an overview of the first part of the process on the page Exchange application Process.

Each school at JU has separate exchange places, applications and deadlines for exchange studies.

There is one application for exchange during the autumn semester and one for spring semester. Check the Exchange Opportunities which semester you can go on exchange studies within your study programme.

Autumn Semester

Hälso: 1 December

JIBS: 20 December

HLK + JTH: 1 February

Spring Semester

Hälso: 1 May

JIBS + HLK + JTH: 15 June

Academic Requirements

Common basic requirements

  • Registered for full-time study within a programme, which has Exchange studies included, at JU
  • Cannot have any kind of ongoing disciplinary investigation or action during the period from the application until departure day and onwards.

Additional academic requirements per school:

Language Requirements

Within the Exchange programme students usually don't need to show language test scores, but some exceptions exist.

Most of our partner universities offer courses in English, but the offer varies.

Each partner university has different admission requirements. To prove language knowledge these certifications are the most common:

  • Language certificate from JU created in MOA (usually sufficient)
  • Upper-secondary school report from a Swedish school (mainly Australian universities)
  • Language test such as TOEFL (Very few partners require test scores, but some in USA or Canada may do it. See information in MOA Portal on each university.)

Responsibility

Jönköping University takes no responsibility for a student selected for a certain English speaking university being denied acceptance at that university because the student has not passed the TOEFL or similar tests. It remains the responsibility of the student who has accepted a place abroad to do the TOEFL-test if it is required of him/her.

Follow instructions given by the Student Association for their school: JSA, LOK, HINT and SUSHI.

Extra-Curricular Activities:

  • May contribute up to 10% of the total selection points.
  • Application required to include these points in exchange studies selection.
  • Information about scores, documentation, and deadlines provided by Student Associations.
  • Contact your school's Student Association for questions.

JIBS Additional Reward Points:

  • Points awarded for contributions to JU's strategy (Mission and Guiding Principles) via extra-curricular activities.
  • Points are tied to exchange studies selection.
  • Information provided by your programme director.

It is a great opportunity to go on exchange within the Exchange programme offered by JU.

Preparation & Planning:

Consider financial situation

  • Tuition fees waived at partner universities, but other costs (travel, visa, insurance, accommodation, living costs, course materials) apply.

Inclusiveness:

Applying for Exchange:

  • Only apply if you intend to go.
  • List only universities you will accept.
  • Rejected places cannot be reassigned, impacting other students.

Tuition-Fee Paying Students at JU:

  • Continue paying JU tuition during exchange; partner university tuition waived.
  • Missed credits may require additional courses at JU with tuition.
