Step 4: During the exchange
Find essential information and guidelines about your exchange here, including steps to take in case of unforeseen events.
While an exchange semester is a fantastic opportunity to have fun and explore a new country, don't forget your academic responsibilities. Balancing fun and studies is crucial. If you fail any courses abroad, JU cannot assist with reexams, meaning you'll need to take extra courses upon returning home.
Changing courses
- Be prepared for course options that may change at the start of the semester at the partner university. This may be due to scheduling conflicts, cancellations or similar.
- We strongly recommend that you upload more courses to MOA for approval than you are going to take in case there is a need to change courses.
- Update MOA if changes occur, and get approval by the accreditor.
- If you are an Erasmus student you also need to update your Learning Agreeement. Follow your workflow in MOA should this be the case.
Marketing Mission
Successful exchange programmes rely on balanced student exchanges incoming & outgoing with partner universities. Encourage students at your partner university to choose JU for their exchange experience.
Marketing mission
- During your exchange semester you are a JU ambassador.
- This means that we need your help to promote JU to other students.
- Examples of activities we ask you to participate in: Exchange Fair, Presentation or other events where you get the possibility to market JU for their students.
- You might also be asked to handle our Instagram account for a week. We ask you to post photos and information about the partner university. This is to give our students back home a better understanding of your partner university.
- This is compulsory for all outbound exchange students.
Information materials
If you need any information materials like posters or brochures, contact us at the International Office. If you want to receive an information package please let us know to which address at your partner university to deliver and before which date you need the packages.

In case of a serious event (for example a natural disaster, political disturbance, etc.), you should also check the recommendations from your home Embassy and/or the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs (UD). Swedish embassies and consulates abroad can be contacted if necessary. After ensuring your safety, keep your relatives and your coordinator at Jönköping University informed.
