Sweden's best teacher studied at Jönköping University

Sweden's best primary school teacher studied at the School of Education and Communication (HLK) at Jönköping University (JU) Her name is Helen Larsson and she was awarded the title at the Lärargalan (Teachers' Gala) in Stockholm on Monday evening.

Helen Larsson works as a special needs teacher at Rosenlundskolan in Jönköping. It was one of her pupils who nominated her with the justification that Helena thinks outside the box, that she is pedagogical, extremely resourceful and that she is very committed and inclusive. And it paid off. During a formal ceremony at the Teachers' Gala in Stockholm, she received the award as Sweden's best primary school teacher.

“It feels unreal to have been chosen. But it's nice to be recognised for the work I do on a daily basis, so it feels great and a real honour,” says Helen.

"We can change the world"

Helen uses both digital and analogue methods in her teaching and is also responsible for Rosenlundsskolan’s IT pedagogyfor adapted primary schools.

She also supports and guides colleagues in how they can use digital tools in a thoughtful way in teaching. Even as a student, Helenabecame interested in special education and took courses in this field. Shelooks back on her time at HLK with joy.

“My education was great, and I gained a lot of good knowledge that I can use in my profession.

Helen would definitely recommend others to train to become teachers.

“It's incredibly important that we give all pupils a good education so that they are equipped for the future. Teaching is one of the most important and most enjoyable professions, and we teachers can really change the world,” says Helen Larsson.

Helen is a very dedicated and inclusive teacher. She always shines like the sun when we come to school; the lessons are fun, educational, and exciting. She is pedagogical and extremely resourceful. Helen thinks outside the box and does her utmost to ensure that we students experience and learn as much as possible. She does this in a fun way and at a level that we can all handle. Helen is a role model for us students and her colleagues at the school. She is a dedicated teacher who deserves to win every year if possible.
