About the programme:
Digitalisation is one of the most powerful forces of change in our time. The built environment – from buildings and roads to water and lighting systems – is becoming increasingly complex and digitally controlled. As the demand for smarter and more sustainable solutions grows, so does the need for experts who can combine digital technologies, a sustainability mindset, and a holistic perspective.
This master’s programme provides you with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to lead and develop efficient, data-driven product realisation processes – with sustainability at the core.
You’ll learn to work with technologies such as BIM (Building Information Management) and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) in combination with simulation, analysis, visualisation, programming, and optimisation. Through projects, research, and hands-on assignments, you’ll also develop the ability to lead, organise, and improve digital workflows in complex project environments.
During the third semester, you’ll have the opportunity to study abroad at one of our partner universities – gaining valuable international experience.
The construction sector is undergoing rapid change. New digital methods require specialised skills, and there is strong demand for professionals who can implement these technologies throughout the entire production chain. This programme offers a unique opportunity to combine technical expertise with a sustainability perspective – a combination that is crucial for building the smart, resilient societies of tomorrow.
After graduation
After graduation, you will have specialised expertise in digital product realisation with a strong focus on sustainable development. You’ll be well prepared to take on advanced roles such as:
- BIM Engineer
- BIM Coordinator or BIM Manager
- Digital Developer
- Change Manager or Digital Coach
Your skillset will be in demand across both the private and public sectors – in construction, infrastructure, technology, and urban development. You could work on anything from energy-efficient buildings and smart cities to circular infrastructure solutions.
The programme also provides excellent preparation for further studies at the doctoral level.
A programme in collaboration with world-leading technical universities
This programme is offered by the School of Engineering – part of Jönköping University – which is a member of the internationally recognised CDIO Initiative™. The knowledge received in the programme will enhance the careers of existing professionals and create new career paths for young professionals, for example as a BIM engineer, BIM coordinator and BIM manager. Many of these roles did not exist until recently, but are now considered key positions in many companies.
Internship
In this program you have eight weeks of internship in a company or another organisation. The purpose is to get you an understanding of future work tasks and how these are related to your education.
