Improving oral health in nursing care - Intervention and evaluation in nursing homes

This project is about oral health in frail elders living in nursing homes. Oral health among elders is often poor and this affects health, including nutrition. This research aims to find ways to improve the oral health of the elderly. The project will evaluate how the oral health of older people is affected by daily fluoride rinse and to having a dental hygienist available at the nursing home on a weekly basis. Nursing staff's attitudes to and knowledge of oral health among elders will also be evaluated.

This research is conducted in collaboration with the Swedish Dental Service and is supported by the National Society for Research on Ageing.
