Jönköping University has an overriding international profile and here, students, teachers and researchers are offered an exciting international environment both abroad and on campus.
Jönköping University’s vision, mission and strategies are rooted in the strengths of the university – our international profile, entrepreneurial students, successful collaboration with business and the public sector – and they focus our strengths even more.
Internationalisation and collaboration are two main areas that our activities should lead to. These two are strategically important and they lay the foundation for our priorities.
Some examples of internationalisation:
Jönköping University offers education in English at all levels from Pathway education to postgraduate education.
During one year, approximately 1,980 international students from some 100 countries study at the university. This figure includes exchange students who stay one or two semesters and international students who read a multi-year educational programme or pathway education.
Jönköping University is one of the foremost in Sweden in terms of international student exchange and the university has about 320 partner universities worldwide.
As the first educational institution in Sweden, Jönköping University offers Pathway Programmes aimed at offering fee-financed Pathway education in English or other qualifying courses as well as skills training for academic studies at undergraduate or graduate level.
In 2016, STINT, the Foundation for the Internationalization of Higher Education and Research, launched an index as a tool for measuring the degree of internationalization at the higher education institutions in Sweden. Jönköping University was awarded 4 out of 5 stars. The index describes the development of six key aspects of internationalization of research, education and personnel and management.
Jönköping University has been at the forefront in recent years in terms of the number of scholarships awarded to students in the Minor Field Studies program, MFS, via the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR).
In a unique agreement, Jönköping University, through Jönköping International Business School, collaborates with four leading universities in East Africa. The cooperation takes place with the support of Sida and covers research training in economics, research in economics, dissemination of research results and development of the private sector. The goal is to contribute to the development in East Africa.
Jönköping University is a so-called Knowledge environment, through a 10-year agreement with the Knowledge Foundation. With this, the university can build a strong and internationally competitive research profile with a focus on knowledge-intensive product development.
Jönköping University supports Scholars at Risk (SAR), an international network that works to provide protection for endangered researchers who cannot operate in their home countries. The network also works with opinion formation and dissemination of information on issues related to academic freedom.
