Nursing education receives high rating in quality control

The Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ) carries out thematic evaluations where various areas for which universities and colleges are responsible for, and which relate to the quality of higher education, are examined. These thematic evaluations contribute to important knowledge and national comparisons of how the universities and colleges of education work and what results have been achieved in certain aspects. In UKÄ's latest assessment, Jönköping University’s Nursing education has been highly rated.

“I am extremely proud of the staff at the nursing program who all work hard to ensure that students get a good education. In UKÄ's quality control, we ended up in the top five and we are already working intensively on several of the "should-do" comments we received, which means that we will quickly be able to produce a new action plan,” says Marie Ernsth Bravell, CEO of the School of Health and Welfare.

She believes that the main reason for the high rating is that the School of Health and Welfare has been working purposefully and in a structured way with supervisors together with both the region and municipalities for some years. This is something that Agneta Stenebrand, Director of Education at the School of Health and Welfare, also confirms.

“The great collaboration we have with our municipalities and the region is one of the big reasons why we get such good grades. We have a well-established concept with good communication with the regions and municipalities. They are the ones who have the overview and the knowledge of which supervisors are needed,” explains Agneta Stenebrand.

The thematic evaluations primarily have a developmental purpose and do not lead to any sanctions for the universities and colleges. When an evaluation is complete, a national picture is presented, but UKÄ also provides feedback to each institution.

“There is nothing mandatory in the recommendations or "should-do” requirements, but they are indicative of what we need to improve and knowing this is extremely important for us. We are already working on several of the recommendations, and, in a year’s time, we will present them in a submitted action report,” concludes Agneta Stenebrand.
