Record-breaking interest in Karriärum at the School of Engineering
A record number of 120 exhibitors and approximately 1,200 students participated in the career fair Karriärum at the School of Engineering (JTH) at Jönköping University (JU) on 9 November.
“Companies have realized that this is how you get hold of students,” says Adina Valjakka, a computer engineer at Combitech.
Karriärum, organized annually, is a large meeting place where students look for internships, degree jobs and summer jobs and where companies, authorities and other organizations can find future employees.
Agneta Marell, president at Jönköping University, was pleased to see the large number and breadth of companies that exhibited at Karriärum. In addition, there was a waiting list of companies and there have already been expressions of interest for next year's fair.
"Proves the quality of our educations"
“The big interest in this event proves the quality of JTH's educations and how sought after our students are on the job market. The high presence of companies shows a local, regional, national and international interest in our engineering students, says Agneta Marell.
According to JTH's Managing Director and Dean, Ingrid Wadskog, the fact that there were a record number of exhibitors at this year's Karriärum indicates a strong interest from the companies in connecting the school's students at an early stage.
What do you think of what you see at Karrierum?
"This is what we want to stand for and what it is all about, to train tomorrow's engineers in close cooperation with business. This is where students and companies meet and where future internships, degree jobs and networks for future careers are created,” says Ingrid Wadskog.
JTH students Lia Beckström and Erica Nilsson, studying Building Design with Architecture at JTH, were at the Karriärum mainly to find graduate jobs and get inspiration for the future. They were impressed by the significant amount of companies at the fair.
“It’s also fun to meet those who have studied here before and now representing a company. Its great to hear about their present jobs,” says Erica Nilsson.
“It’s obvious that companies are interested in newly graduated JTH students. There are definitely opportunities to network and make new contacts,” says Lia Beckström.
"Incredibly important meeting place"
Sven Rydell, Business Coordinator at Jönköping municipality, emphasizes that this type of meeting places between students and companies is incredibly important.
“The need for high-level competence is huge among our companies going forward. Jönköping University is a genuine factory of knowledge and is incredibly important for Jönköping municipality, says Sven Rydell, who describes Karriärum as a fantastic event.
Hanna Weiler Hagelin, product developer and designer at Husqvarna Group, studied Mechanical Engineering: Product Development and Design at JTH.
“I felt very prepared after my education and we see JTH students as a great resource. Hopefully, we will get to know some new future employees here today,” she says.
"A way for us to recruit our future colleagues"
Adina Valjakka, computer engineer at Combitech, was yet another in the line of JTH alumni. She studied Computer Technology - Embedded Systems at JTH and is still involved in the school's student life.
“It's fun to be here and to be able to give something back to the students by offering them degree jobs and internships. This is a way for us to recruit our future colleagues and market the company,” she says.
Spotify was at Karrièreum for the first time.
“We want to get in touch with as many students as possible and know that Jönköping University has many interesting programs, such as New Media Design and Computer Technology,” says Lawko Karim, recruiter at Spotify and former Bachelor of Economics student at JIBS.
