Putting macroeconomic theory to the test

In a new PhD thesis from Jönköping International Business School Olivier Habimana presents novel ways to examine some of the puzzles in macroeconomics.

Olivier Habimana’s doctoral thesis is titled “Asymmetry and Multiscale Dynamics in Macroeconomic Time Series Analysis”. In this thesis, he focuses on modelling exchange rates and monetary policy dynamics. The emphasis is put on asymmetries and nonlinearities in the exchange rate adjustment, and the effects of monetary policy at more detailed time horizons.

“If we emphasize more on the processes that actually generate macroeconomic time series data that we seek to analyse, it is possible to solve some of the puzzles in macroeconomics”, says Olivier Habimana.

Prior to coming to Jönköping International Business School Olivier Habimana did his master’s studies in economics at the University of Turin, The Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po), and Sapienza University of Rome. He also obtained a BSc in Applied Statistics from National University of Rwanda.

He has been a lecturer at University of Rwanda since 2009, and his PhD studies have been financed by Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) through the University of Rwanda–Sweden Program for Research, Higher Education and Institutional Advancement. Jönköping International Business School is a committed partner, and Olivier Habimana is the first Doctoral Student within the project to present his thesis in Jönköping.

Olivier Habimana successfully defended his thesis “Asymmetry and Multiscale Dynamics in Macroeconomic Time Series Analysis” at Jönköping International Business School on Wednesday 13th June.
