A decade of media business research

– Practices and research efforts for the future

Wednesday, 11 December, Hall B1014

Time: 10:30 – 17:15

Jönköping International Business School

Thanks to the continuous and generous support from the Carl-Olof and Jenz Hamrin Foundation, the Media Management and Transformation Centre at Jönköping International Business School is arranging a symposium to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The symposium will address and discuss how our research work has increased and developed knowledge about the business of media.

This symposium looks back over the past 10 years and reflects on how it has changed our understanding of the media industry. The decade has among other things been a period where digitalization has changed not only news distribution and consumption, but also the daily life practices of consumers, traditional organizational structures in media firms, and the legal environments in which they operate. As researchers we have tried to make sense of this change, and now take the time to reflect upon current research topics within the field. Among buzzwords such as “media convergence”, “social media”, and “big data”, we ask ourselves if the right questions have been examined and what we can learn, going forward.
