JU Reads

Tre personer på ett bibliotek

In autumn 2026, a new initiative will start at Jönköping University, namely JU Reads - a fiction initiative where students can broaden their perspectives through reading and discussion.

Starting in the autumn semester of 2026, JU students will have the chance to participate in JU Reads - a new concept to promote understanding, empathy, and critical thinking through reading and discussions.

In small groups, you’ll develop and deepen both your personal and professional skills. The project is made possible thanks to partnerships with the Bonniers Family Foundation and the Hamrin Foundation.

How it works

Once you've signed up, you’ll be placed in a group of up to ten students and assigned a group leader from JU’s staff who will facilitate the discussions.

Everyone taking part in JU Reads receives the physical books and refreshments, free of charge. The first discussion will take place in November and the second at the start of the spring term 2027. The group decides where and when to meet.

Enjoy new reading experiences and meet new people.

Launch party on 3 September

JU Reads starts in September 2026 and offers several reading groups in both Swedish and English to meet JU's diversity.

On 3 September, a launch event will be held where students, staff, and the general public are invited to mingle and take part in an engaging author talk with Lydia Sandgren. Lydia Sandgren is a Swedish author and recipient of the 2020 August Prize, known for her acclaimed novels Samlade Verk and Artens överlevnad.
