JU is strengthening its efforts to improve the students' working environment

Following the results of the International Student Barometer (ISBSB), which highlights both strengths and areas for improvement, Jönköping University (JU) is now taking further steps to develop and strengthen the students' working environment.

The International Student Barometer shows that JU performs strongly in several areas, while also indicating room for improvement regarding students' overall experience and engagement. To address this, JU is strengthening its work on the students' working environment.

A comprehensive approach to the working environment for students and staff

One concrete step is the organizational transfer of Student Health Care to the HR department from 1 September, where working environment issues for both students and staff will be consolidated. The working environment is a key part of realizing JU’s vision People First.

“We are trialing a new approach where we bring together working environment issues for students and staff. By combining expertise and developing methods together, we can meet students' needs even better,” says Andreas Torén, Head of Student Counselling, who, as part of the change, will take on a new role as Student Strategist within HR.

Greater focus on coordination and long-term planning

The change is part of the ongoing development work within University Services, with a clearer focus on students and more proactive support.

“Students' well-being and their working environment are central to their ability to succeed in their studies. By centralizing work environment initiatives within HR, we can capitalize on the synergies that affect the working environment for both staff and students,” says Marie Eriksson, Chief HR Officer at JU.

The ISBSB survey shows that many students are calling for clearer support and a more cohesive student experience. The focus on the working environment is a step towards meeting these expectations.

Students also view this work as important.

“Issues relating to students' working environment, health, and access to support are crucial to students' everyday lives. It is positive that JU is developing this work and taking a more coordinated approach,” says Arne Johnsson, Vice President of Jönköping Student Union.

Work on the students' working environment will continue to develop over the coming years, with the aim of strengthening both study conditions, participation, and the overall experience of being a student at JU.
